I had been counting down the days to my first cooking class! I couldn’t wait to get some great new recipes, a few helpful tips from a trained chef and learn about different ingredients. I found a cooking class online through President’s Choice Cooking School website and thought for only $10, why not give it a try?!
Though it wasn’t exactly what I expected (I was hoping for more of an interactive class) it was still a great experience. With a President’s Choice employee and Chef Jasit Kaur, we learned how to make a delicious “Spring Entertaining” themed menu. The recipes included, Spicy Honeyed Nuts, Feta Avocado Dip with Hot Chili Pepper, Panko Crusted Chicken Fingers, Mushroom & Green Bean Stir-Fry and to finish it all off, Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Crispy Rice Squares! Even though the recipe names are long winded, the instructions and ingredients were simple, fresh and delicious! Chef Jasit Kaur cooked each recipe and gave us helpful tips along the way.
Next time, I’ll look for a class that is a bit more interactive and more instructional such as a knife skills class or a baking class. Actually, I plan on signing up for a cupcake baking & decorating class, with a local Kitchener business called The Cake Tutor – how fun does that sound?! Expect lots of pictures from that one!
If you enjoy cooking or you’re hoping to improve your skills, I would absolutely recommend taking a couple classes. Just watching a professional chef inspired me to get more creative in the kitchen and really work on improving my skills and knowledge base. And personally, it was just lots of FUN!
Stay tuned for some of the recipes I learned in the President’s Choice Cooking School class!
